After six months of online marketplace scrolling, I spotted the ideal candidate for my electric moped conversion project - The 1978 Motobécane Mobylette 50V.

The owner told me he acquired the bike a few years earlier from an elderly woman in exchange for yard work, but I felt fortunate to walk away with the bike, motor (locked), and a handful of parts for only $125. Some of these old mopeds go for $1000+. Vintage is cool!

The bike paint, chrome, and wheels were in good shape with the exception of a few rust pinholes in the gas tank. That was fine with me since I wasn't going to be using gas. This baby was going electric!

After joining as many moped and ebike Facebook forums I could find, the build started in June 2022.

Click the Build link above for more on the process and progression of this build.

With the build complete, I have had the chance to ride this incredible machine.

I have more testing to do, but this section contains my initial thoughts and observations as well as a specification comparison between the original moped and the conversion.
